Maa Katyayani – The sixth day of Navratri. According to Jyotishacharya, the sixth day of Navratri is the law of worship of Katyayani. The sixth form of Adi Shakti Shri Durga. Her name is Katyani because, Pleasing by the penance of Maharishi Katyayan, Adishakti was born as a daughter to him.

With the worship of Mother Katyayani, the seeker attains the perfections of the awakening cycle. He stays in this world and also gets supernatural fast and full of effects and his diseases, grief, sorrow, fear, etc.

The mythology of Maa Katyayani

Panditji says that there is a legend related to his name that there was a famous sage named Kat at one time. His son was the sage Katya, from the famous Katya gotra named after him, the world-famous sage Katyayan was born. He practiced hard penance while worshiping Bhagwati Parvabra. He wished that Bhagwati was born as a daughter in his house.

The mother accepted his request. After some time, when the tyranny of the demon named Mahishasura was greatly increased, Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh generated their goddess by giving them their share of fast and great glory to destroy them. Maharishi Katyayan worshiped her because of this reason she was called Goddess Katyayani.

After the birth of Ashwin Krishna Chaturdashi, Shukla Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami, the sage Katyayan worshiped him for three days, after worshiping this goddess killed Mahishasura on Dashmi. The nature of these is very divine. Their color is bright like gold. He has four arms, his right upper hand is in Abhaya mudra, the bottom hand is in Varadamudra.

There is a sword in the left upper hand and a lotus flower in the lower hand and their vehicle is Leo. The command cycle has an important place in Yoga sadhana. The seeker in this cycle surrenders himself at the feet of Katyayani. With complete surrender, the seeker gets to see the mother with respect. By devotion to mother Katyayani, man gets meaning, deeds, work, salvation.

Worship method of Katyayani form of Maa Durga

First worship the Kalash and the Gods and Goddesses present in it and then worship the Gods and Goddesses included in the mother’s family. After worshiping Goddess Katyayani Ji. On starting the method of worship, worshiping the goddess with flowers in her hands.

After worshiping the Goddess, one should worship Mahadev and the Father. Shri Hari  The form of Maa Katyayani is very divine and shining like gold. She sits on her beloved ride lion. His four arms give a boon to the devotees, one hand is in Abhaya mudra, the other hand is in Varadmudra, the other hand has a sword and lotus flower.

सिंहरूढ़ा चतुर्भुजा कात्यायनी यशस्वनीम्॥
स्वर्णाआज्ञा चक्र स्थितां षष्टम दुर्गा त्रिनेत्राम्।
वराभीत करां षगपदधरां कात्यायनसुतां भजामि॥
पटाम्बर परिधानां स्मेरमुखी नानालंकार भूषिताम्।
मंजीर, हार, केयूर, किंकिणि रत्नकुण्डल मण्डिताम्॥
प्रसन्नवदना पञ्वाधरां कांतकपोला तुंग कुचाम्।
कमनीयां लावण्यां त्रिवलीविभूषित निम्न नाभिम॥

कंचनाभा वराभयं पद्मधरा मुकटोज्जवलां।
स्मेरमुखीं शिवपत्नी कात्यायनेसुते नमोअस्तुते॥
पटाम्बर परिधानां नानालंकार भूषितां।
सिंहस्थितां पदमहस्तां कात्यायनसुते नमोअस्तुते॥
परमांवदमयी देवि परब्रह्म परमात्मा।
